Union of Aragon

1283–1348 · 13th century · Also known as Unión aragonesa

The Union of Aragon was a league of nobles and towns of the Kingdom of Aragon formed in 1283 to defend their privileges against the crown. It forced Peter III to grant the General Privilege of 1283 and Alfonso III the Privileges of the Union in 1287, which allowed resistance to a king who broke the law. Peter IV crushed it at the Battle of Épila in 1348.
