Upper Ossory
Upper Ossory is the northern part of the old kingdom of Osraige, in what is now County Laois, Ireland. After the Anglo-Norman invasion the Mac Giolla Phádraig (Fitzpatrick) family kept it as their lordship, and in 1541 their chief Brian surrendered it to Henry VIII and received it back as Baron of Upper Ossory. The name survives as that of a barony.
