Upper Nubia
Upper Nubia is the southern part of Nubia, along the Nile in modern Sudan from the Second Cataract southwards. It was the heartland of Kush: the kingdom of Kerma flourished at the Third Cataract from about 2500 BCE, and later Napata and Meroë lay further upstream. Under the New Kingdom, Egyptian viceroys governed it as the province of Kush, distinct from Wawat, or Lower Nubia.
