Napata
Napata was an ancient city in Nubia near the Fourth Cataract of the Nile, in present-day Sudan. It became a principal centre of the Kushite Empire after Kerma and before Meroë, and housed an important cult of Amun that legitimised royal power. Kushite kings who ruled Egypt as its Twenty-fifth Dynasty drew their authority from this religious centre.
