Nile cataracts
The Nile cataracts are a series of shallow, rocky stretches of rapids on the Nile between Aswan and Khartoum, traditionally numbered from the first in the north to the sixth. They formed natural frontiers between Egypt and Nubia. Under Thutmose I, the Egyptian New Kingdom extended its reach as far as the fourth cataract.
