Wawat
Wawat was the ancient Egyptian name for Lower Nubia, the Nile valley between the First and Second Cataracts. Egypt raided, fortified and exploited it from the Old and Middle Kingdoms for gold, stone and trade goods, and under the New Kingdom it formed one of the two provinces governed by the viceroy of Kush, administered from Aniba.
