Jebel Barkal
Jebel Barkal is a flat-topped sandstone mountain near Karima in northern Sudan, held sacred as a home of the god Amun. Egyptian kings of the New Kingdom built a temple at its foot, and the Kushite kings of Napata enlarged it as the religious centre of their state; Piye set up his victory stela there. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
