Middle Francia
Middle Francia was the central kingdom created by the Treaty of Verdun in 843, when the Carolingian Empire was divided among the sons of Louis the Pious. It went to Lothair I and stretched from the Low Countries through Burgundy to Italy. It soon fragmented further, and its northern part, Lotharingia, was contested between East and West Francia.
