Ustaše

1929–1945 · 20th century · Also known as Ustasha, Ustaša

The Ustaše were a Croatian fascist and ultranationalist movement founded by Ante Pavelić in 1929, which used terrorism against the Yugoslav state, including the assassination of King Alexander in 1934. After the Axis invasion in April 1941 they ruled the Independent State of Croatia, carrying out genocide against Serbs, Jews and Roma, with the Jasenovac camp at its centre. The regime collapsed in May 1945.
