12th century · 12th century

Vaidyadeva was a minister and general of the Pala king Kumarapala of Bengal in the early 12th century. Sent to put down a revolt in Kamarupa, he took control of the kingdom and then ruled it himself, issuing the Kamauli copper-plate grant as an independent king. His rule marked the end of a united Kamarupa, which broke up into smaller states.
