Vemork

1911 · 20th century

Vemork is a hydroelectric power station near Rjukan in Telemark, Norway, opened in 1911. During the German occupation its plant was the main source of heavy water for German nuclear research, and in February 1943 Norwegian commandos sabotaged it in Operation Gunnerside. The old power station now houses the Norwegian Industrial Workers Museum.
