Vijayabahu Kollaya

1521 · 16th century

The Vijayabahu Kollaya, the "plunder of Vijayabahu", was a palace revolt in 1521 in the Kingdom of Kotte, Sri Lanka, in which three sons of King Vijayabahu VI killed their father, who had favoured another heir. The kingdom was then divided: Bhuvanaikabahu VII took Kotte, Mayadunne received Sitawaka and Raigam Bandara Raigama. The partition weakened Kotte and drew the Portuguese deeper into the island's politics.
