Vikramankadevacharita

c. 1085 · 11th century

The Vikramankadevacharita is a Sanskrit poem in eighteen cantos by the Kashmiri poet Bilhana, written in the 1080s, celebrating the life of his patron, the Western Chalukya king Vikramaditya VI. Part history and part court epic, it describes the king's rise to the throne and his wars, and ends with an autobiographical account of the poet. It is an important source for the history of the Deccan.
