Vindonissa

Vindonissa was a Roman legionary fortress at present-day Windisch, in the canton of Aargau, Switzerland, near the confluence of the Aare and the Reuss. Founded around 15 CE, it housed legions guarding the upper Rhine until about 101, and in the late third and fourth centuries it was refortified against Alemannic raids. Its remains include an amphitheatre and parts of the walls and gates.
