Vsevolod Mstislavich

c. 1103–1138 · 12th century · Also known as Vsevolod of Pskov

Vsevolod Mstislavich was prince of Novgorod from 1117 to 1136, a grandson of Vladimir Monomakh. In 1136 the citizens of Novgorod arrested and expelled him, accusing him of neglecting the city and fleeing a battle, a turning point after which Novgorod chose its princes by agreement. He then ruled Pskov until his death in 1138 and was later venerated as a saint.
