Waikīkī
Waikīkī is a beachfront neighbourhood of Honolulu on the south shore of Oʻahu, Hawaii. Once a wetland of taro fields and fishponds, it was a residence of Oʻahu's chiefs and the landing place of Kamehameha I's invasion fleet in 1795. In the 20th century, after its wetlands were drained by the Ala Wai Canal, it became one of the world's best-known beach resorts.
