Westo
The Westo were an Iroquoian-speaking people who appeared in Virginia and Carolina in the mid-17th century, probably descendants of the Erie. Armed with guns obtained from Virginian traders, they raided other native peoples for captives to sell as slaves. Allied for a time with the Carolina colony, they were destroyed in the Westo War of 1680 by the colonists and their Shawnee allies.
