Willemstad
Willemstad is the capital of Curaçao, built around the natural harbour of Sint Anna Bay. Founded by the Dutch West India Company after it seized the island in 1634, it became a centre of Caribbean trade, including the slave trade, and later the capital of the Netherlands Antilles. Its colourful colonial waterfront districts of Punda and Otrobanda are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
