Person
William Dappa Pepple
William Dappa Pepple was king of Bonny in the Niger Delta from 1837. He signed treaties with Britain against the slave trade as Bonny moved to the palm oil trade, but quarrels with British traders and rival chiefs led the British consul to depose and exile him in 1854. He was restored in 1861 and ruled until his death in 1866.
