Person
William Tubman
William Tubman was President of Liberia from 1944 until his death in 1971, the longest-serving president in its history. His open-door policy brought foreign investment in iron ore and rubber, and his unification policy extended rights to the indigenous majority, though power stayed with the Americo-Liberian True Whig Party.
