Wuzurgan

The wuzurgan were the great noble houses of the Sasanian Empire, whose military power and regional authority the dynasty could not entirely suppress. Accounts of the Sasanian Empire describe how Sasanian administration combined the centralising ambitions of its founders with the need to accommodate these families. Their power was a recurring source of tension within the empire.
