Yam (postal system)
The Yam was the relay and postal system of the Mongol Empire, a network of stations supplying fresh horses, food and lodging to official messengers and travellers. It allowed information and orders to travel rapidly across the vast empire. Accounts of the Mongol Empire treat the Yam as vital to both military coordination and imperial governance.
