Yamauchi Kazutoyo

1545–1605 · 16th century

Yamauchi Kazutoyo was a Japanese daimyo who served Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi and sided with Tokugawa Ieyasu at Sekigahara in 1600. As a reward Ieyasu gave him Tosa province, taken from Chosokabe Morichika. He arrived in 1601, built Kochi Castle and suppressed resistance by former Chosokabe retainers; his descendants ruled the Tosa Domain until 1871.
