Yankton Sioux
The Yankton, or Ihanktonwan, are one of the seven divisions of the Oceti Sakowin, speaking the Dakota language and long grouped with the Yanktonai as the middle Sioux. In the 18th century they lived along the Missouri River in present-day South Dakota and Iowa, hunting bison and trading. By a treaty of 1858 they ceded most of their land to the United States and settled on the Yankton Reservation in South Dakota.
