Yashovarman was the Chandela king who made his dynasty a regional power in Bundelkhand in the mid-10th century, capturing the fortress of Kalinjar from the Gurjara-Pratiharas. He built the Lakshmana temple at Khajuraho, and his son Dhanga became the first fully independent Chandela ruler.
