1843–1917 · 19th century · Also known as Yevgeni Alekseyev

Yevgeny Alekseyev was a Russian admiral who commanded the Pacific Squadron and governed the Kwantung Oblast from Port Arthur, and in 1903 was appointed Viceroy of the Far East. His forceful policy in Manchuria and Korea helped bring on the Russo-Japanese War, in which he was briefly commander-in-chief before being recalled in late 1904. He was widely rumoured to be an illegitimate son of Alexander II.
