Zakopane
Zakopane is a town in southern Poland at the foot of the Tatra Mountains, in the Podhale region. It grew in the late 19th century into a mountain resort and an artistic centre, where Stanisław Witkiewicz developed the Zakopane style of architecture. In October 1918 its citizens took power from Austrian officials and formed the short-lived Republic of Zakopane.
