Zakkur

r. c. 800 BCE · 9th century BCE · Also known as Zakir

Zakkur was an Aramaean king of Hamath and Lu'ash around 800 BCE, probably a usurper. His Aramaic stele, found at Tell Afis, ancient Hatarikka, records how the god Baalshamin saved him when a coalition of kings led by Bar-Hadad of Aram-Damascus besieged him there. It is one of the most important Old Aramaic inscriptions.
