Kraków

Also known as Cracow, Krakow

Kraków is a city on the Vistula in southern Poland and the country's historic capital. Seat of a bishopric from 1000, it became the coronation and royal city, with the Wawel castle and cathedral, and in 1364 Casimir III founded its university. The court moved to Warsaw around 1596, but kings were still crowned and buried at Wawel. Its old town was among the first UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1978.
