Zvenyhorod (Lviv Oblast)

Also known as Zvenigorod (Galicia)

Zvenyhorod is a village south-east of Lviv in western Ukraine, on the site of a medieval town that was the seat of a principality in the 11th and 12th centuries. Volodymyrko Volodarovych ruled from there before uniting Galicia, and the town was destroyed by the Mongols in 1241. Excavations have uncovered its fortifications and birch-bark documents.
