Chuda State

1707 CE – 1948 CE (approx.) · capital Chuda

A Jhala Rajput state of the Jhalawad district of northern Kathiawar, one of several Jhala branches.

Origins

Chuda was held by a branch of the Jhala Rajputs of Wadhwan State and emerged as a separate holding in 1707. Its seat was the small town of Chuda in the cotton country of Jhalawad.

Rule and society

The Thakor ruled a territory of cotton and grain villages, paying tribute to the Gaekwads and then coming under British supervision in the Kathiawar Agency after 1807. Few further details of its rulers are widely recorded.

Decline and legacy

Chuda merged into the United State of Saurashtra in 1948 and became part of Gujarat in 1960, in Surendranagar district.

Few sources survive for this state; details are uncertain.
