Kamta-Rajaula State

1812 CE – 1950 CE (approx.) · capital Kamta

A small Chaube jagir of Bundelkhand, one of the estates granted to the former Brahmin governors of Kalinjar in 1812.

Origins

Kamta-Rajaula was created in 1812 as one of the shares given to the Chaube family, who had held the fort of Kalinjar for the rulers of Panna, in return for surrendering it to the British.

Rule and society

The estate covered a few villages near Kamta, the hill sacred to Rama at Chitrakoot, under the Bundelkhand Agency. Little else of its history is recorded.

Decline and legacy

After independence Kamta-Rajaula was merged into Vindhya Pradesh with the other Bundelkhand states and absorbed by 1950.

Few sources survive for this state; details are uncertain.
