Lugasi State

1750 CE – 1950 CE (approx.) · capital Lugasi

A minor principality of the Bundelkhand Agency, one of many small holdings left from the break-up of Bundela power.

Origins

Lugasi became a separate chiefship in the mid-18th century during the fragmentation of the Bundela kingdoms, and its holder received a British sanad in the early 19th century.

Rule and society

Little is recorded of its history. It was a small non-salute state of a few villages, supervised by the political agent in Bundelkhand.

Decline and legacy

After independence Lugasi was merged with the other Bundelkhand states into Vindhya Pradesh, and its lands were absorbed into the Indian administration by 1950.

Few sources survive for this state; details are uncertain.
