Tharoch State

1500 CE – 1948 CE (approx.) · capital Tharoch

A small Rajput hill state in the upper Pabbar region east of Shimla, one of the minor Simla Hill States.

Origins

Tradition dates the ruling family to around 1500, but little is reliably known of its origins.

Rule and society

Tharoch was a small mountain state related to its neighbour Jubbal State. It was occupied by Gurkhas of the Kingdom of Nepal in the early 19th century and restored as a Simla Hill State under British protection after 1815. Its history is poorly recorded.

Decline and legacy

Tharoch merged into Himachal Pradesh in April 1948 and is now part of Shimla district.

Few sources survive for this state; details are uncertain.
