Triboci
Origins
The Triboci appear in Caesar's account of the battle against Ariovistus in 58 BCE as one of the peoples in his army. They had settled on the left bank of the Rhine, in land previously held by the Mediomatrici.
Rule and society
Nothing is known of their institutions. They seem to have adopted Gallic ways quickly after settling west of the Rhine.
Decline and legacy
After Caesar's victory over Ariovistus they remained in Alsace. Under Rome they formed a civitas with its chief town at Brocomagus (Brumath), north of Strasbourg.
Few sources survive for this state; details are uncertain.
