2006 People's Movement
The 2006 People's Movement, also called Jana Andolan II, was a wave of general strikes and mass protests in Nepal in April 2006 against the direct rule of King Gyanendra. Organised by the main parliamentary parties in alliance with the Maoist insurgents, it forced the king to restore parliament after nineteen days. It opened the way to the 2006 peace agreement and the abolition of the monarchy in 2008.
