Nepalese Civil War
The Nepalese Civil War was an armed conflict from 1996 to 2006 between the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist), led by Pushpa Kamal Dahal (Prachanda), and the Nepali monarchy and government. Some 17,000 people were killed. It ended with the Comprehensive Peace Agreement of November 2006, after the People's Movement had forced King Gyanendra to give up direct rule, and led to the abolition of the monarchy in 2008.
