Nepal Sambat
Nepal Sambat is a lunar calendar era of Nepal that begins in 879 CE. Used for centuries in inscriptions, documents and coins of the Thakuri and Malla periods, it remains the traditional calendar of the Newar people of the Kathmandu Valley, whose new year falls in October or November. Tradition credits a merchant, Sankhadhar Sakhwa, with founding it by paying off the people's debts.
