Abdallah Barshambu

r. 1317 · 14th century

Abdallah Barshambu was a king of Makuria in Nubia, a member of the royal house who had become a Muslim while living at the Mamluk court in Cairo. The Mamluk sultan al-Nasir Muhammad placed him on the throne in 1317, and an Arabic inscription records the conversion of the Throne Hall at Old Dongola into a mosque in that year. He was soon overthrown and killed by Kanz al-Dawla of the Banu Kanz.
