Abiodun

r. c. 1770–1789 · 18th century · Also known as Alaafin Abiodun

Abiodun was an Alaafin, or king, of the Oyo Empire who reigned c. 1770–1789. He came to power by overthrowing the powerful Bashorun Gaha, ending a period of domination by the Oyo Mesi council. His reign brought stability and commercial prosperity through the Atlantic trade, but the neglect of the army and unresolved tensions contributed to Oyo's later decline.
