Abraham van Peere

Abraham van Peere was a merchant of Vlissingen in Zeeland who founded the Dutch colony of Berbice in present-day Guyana. In 1627 he received a charter from the Dutch West India Company to settle the Berbice river, and his family held the colony as a private patroonship for decades, beginning with a trading post at Fort Nassau.
