Acronauplia

Acronauplia is the rocky peninsula and oldest fortified quarter of Nafplio in the Peloponnese, Greece. Walled since antiquity, it was strengthened in turn by the Byzantines, the Franks, the Venetians and the Ottomans, and was the citadel of the town until the larger Palamidi fortress was built above it in the early 18th century. Remains of its successive walls survive.
