Acropolis of Athens

The Acropolis of Athens is the rocky citadel above the city, occupied since the Neolithic and the site of a fortified Mycenaean palace in the Late Bronze Age. After the Persians sacked it in 480 BCE it was rebuilt under Pericles with the Parthenon, the Propylaea, the Erechtheion and the Temple of Athena Nike. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
