Ada of Caria

4th century BCE · 4th century BCE

Ada was a member of the Hecatomnid dynasty of Caria, a daughter of Hecatomnus, who ruled as satrap with her brother and husband Idrieus and alone after his death in 344 BCE. Her younger brother Pixodarus drove her out around 340 BCE, leaving her only the fortress of Alinda. In 334 BCE she adopted Alexander the Great as her son, and he restored her as ruler of Caria.
