Adalbert of Babenberg

d. 906 · 9th century

Adalbert of Babenberg was a Franconian count of the Popponid family, the elder Babenbergs. His feud with the rival Conradines for dominance in Franconia culminated in 906, when Conrad the Elder was killed in battle at Fritzlar. Besieged in his castle of Theres, Adalbert surrendered on a promise of safe conduct but was executed on the orders of the regency of King Louis the Child.
