African diaspora
The African diaspora refers to the communities of people of African descent living outside Africa, largely created by the Atlantic slave trade. Enslaved people from regions such as the Kongo and Oyo empires carried languages, religious practices and cultural traditions to the Americas. Yoruba and Kongo influences remain visible in religions and cultures in Brazil, Cuba and elsewhere.
