Aggersborg

c. 980 · 10th century

Aggersborg is the largest of the Viking-age ring fortresses of Denmark, on the north shore of the Limfjord in northern Jutland. Built around 980, probably under Harald Bluetooth, it had a circular rampart about 240 metres across, divided by two streets into quarters filled with longhouses. Like the other Trelleborg-type fortresses, it was used only briefly. It is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
