Akhmim
Akhmim is a town on the east bank of the Nile in Upper Egypt, in Sohag Governorate. Called Panopolis by the Greeks, it was a cult centre of the god Min and in late antiquity a centre of textile production and Christian monasticism. Medieval Arab historians report that Nubian forces from Makuria raided Upper Egypt as far as Akhmim in the 960s.
