Al-Jawf (Yemen)

Also known as Wadi al-Jawf

Al-Jawf is a region of northern Yemen, a broad desert valley north-east of Sanaa and north of Marib, now a governorate. In the 1st millennium BCE it held the city-states of the Kingdom of Ma'in, including Qarnawu and Yathill (Baraqish), which grew rich on the incense trade. Many of their ruined temples and city walls still stand.
