al-Malik al-Rahim

r. 1048–1055 · 11th century

Al-Malik al-Rahim was the last Buyid ruler of Iraq, succeeding his father Abu Kalijar in 1048. Unable to control his Turkish troops or his brothers, he lost authority to the military commander al-Basasiri. In December 1055 the Seljuk ruler Tughril Beg entered Baghdad, was recognised as sultan by the caliph al-Qa'im and imprisoned al-Malik al-Rahim, ending Buyid rule in Iraq; he died in captivity.
